Writer's Life Part 2

I’m back!

Welcome to part 2 where I will be sharing my thoughts on my writing journey.

So today I want to talk about scheduling. Yes, that dreaded thing we all know we have to do, but we all don’t like to and some even refuse to. This is something that I have found hard to do. With working full time and a family at home, it is really hard to schedule in time to write, let alone read.

As of March 2023, my schedule goes as follows:

Wake up at 5am.

Get washed, dressed, teeth brushed, all that good stuff.

Go downstairs and make sure I have lunch sorted and my bag is packed.

Sit down to write for maybe 20 mins, if I’m lucky.

Get to work for 6am, whilst eating something.

Start my work day.

10am is my first break where I will cram as much food as I can in the 15 mins and relax.

Wait till my lunch break and write for 30 mins.

Squeeze in any notes on my phone throughout the day.

Finish work at 5pm and be home about 5.15 (I live really close)

Play with the kids, eat dinner and get them wash and in bed.

8pm I’ll sit down and talk to my wife to see what’s been going on and we might watch something on TV.

Currently, I’ve been doing the revisions on Aurora, so I’ll do those from about 9-10pm.

Around 10, 10.30 I’ll start to write (Last night it was about 11).

I’ll try and write for as long as my eyes let me, but it’s normally no more than an hour.

Then I sleep, or normally just fall into some sort of adventure in my head that makes me feel like utter shit when I wake up.

Get up in the night for a toilet break, because I’m now over 30.

Then it starts all over again.

Wow, it looks strange when you finally put it down in words. Anyway, this is what my life is like at the moment. It varies from day to day for different activities with the kids or me, normally football or Karate.

But the weekends are an absolute free for all. That is a whole other blog to get into that.

So, to round it off, I do have a schedule. But as you can see, I don’t get much writing time in let alone reading (which I need to do more). Let’s just say it has taken me a long time to get to this point but if I don’t follow this, I will fall into my old habits of not writing anything for months at a time. And that cannot happen if I want to reach my goals of publishing.

Anyway, that’s it for now. Check out the rest of my website or follow me on the various socials to keep up to date. Or, sign up to my newsletter and read the first 3 chapters of Aurora. Go on, you know you want to.
