Hello and welcome! My name is Lee Dawson, and I am soon to be a published author with my debut novel Aurora - Book One of The BrightStone Saga.

Should I finish there?
Maybe I should. This post is called 'Where do I start?' after all. But I might say a few more words first.
This is just a little introduction to me and how all of this started.
I was pretty good at school, I always got stuck in and loved English, maths, sports, music and various other subjects. I worked hard at school until my last year, where frankly, I had had enough! I went in each day and began to really dislike being there. I went from class to class not really listening, with no focus on what I was doing, and by December 2003 I had decided I wanted to leave and start an apprenticeship instead. I started the following September as a trainee fabricator Welder, qualified four years later and have done so ever since. I needed to do something with my hands and luckily I was able to use what I had learnt at school and apply it to my work.
I tell you this because, as I said, school wasn't a priority for me at the end. Even though I received decent enough grades, I didn't even know I wanted to be an author until much later on.
This is where it should really begin:
Once upon a time...
Nope, just nope.
Firstly, although I write fantasy, my stories are by no means any sort of fairytales. I have nothing against them though, not at all.
Anyway, it all started at work one day. We were a bit slow, so my brain had some time to think. I had not long read A Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, and I absolutely loved it! But reading that monster got me thinking. An idea popped into my head, and then another and another, so I wrote them all down and it started to turn into something. At the time I had no idea that it would end up as a novel, and with that, came more ideas.
So my little notes and bullet points turned first into a story of magic, swords and betrayal. That then turned into the prologue for Aurora, which comes close to just over 160K words as a final count.
So what I'm trying to say is this: I never dreamed of being an author at all. But I had some strange fantasy ideas pop into my head, and I wrote a little story, which turned into a big story which made me realise that I wanted to be an author, publish and let others read my work.
It may have taken me six years to get to this point, but I am happy for the journey and how things have turned out.
So lastly, for my first of many (I hope) posts on this blog, I just want to say thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope to interact with you all some day. I'm on twitter the most so come and chat anytime.
But that's it, go read something else, why don't you?
Maybe the prologue to Aurora?
